About

Hi. My name is Steve and there is nothing remarkable about me. Now, just wait… before you suggest psychological counseling, I do not have any self-esteem issues, just a lifetime of experiences to convince me that I am, unremarkably, just a normal, average, middle-aged man (who can sometimes pull off some pretty remarkable things).

As I write this I am just shy of my 58th birthday. I work a full-time job during the day and operate a small side-hustle business in the evenings and on weekends. As a divorced father of 3, mostly grown-up kids, I live alone but I am rarely lonely. There are simply too many things to do and too many places to explore.

Whether a day trip on a local river or nearby trail or an extended vacation in the wilderness or overseas; from planning to post trip evaluation to researching the next adventure, my life is full and rewarding.

My goal here is to highlight some of my adventures through reports that are honestly and entertainingly written, through photos that capture the beauty of the areas and videos that entertain as well as encourage your own adventures. I’m not infallible and won’t pretend to be a master of bushcraft. I’ll make mistakes, tell you my experiences and, hopefully, we’ll all be better prepared because of it.

If you can’t get out or the areas I visit are too far away for you to visit, I hope that you can enjoy visiting vicariously through me and that I can be both informative and entertaining.

Ultimately, however, I hope that I can inspire others to get outside and explore regardless of their ages. Trust me, I was in much better physical condition 30 years ago than I am today but I’m probably in better shape today than I will be 30 years from now. There is no better time to get started and, if I can do it, so can you.
